'A veritable treat' Daily Mail

The fifth novel in Julia Quinn's globally beloved and bestselling Bridgerton Family series, set in Regency times and now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix. This is Eloise's story . . .
My dear Miss Bridgerton,

We have been corresponding now for quite some time, and although we have never formally met, I feel as if I know you. I am writing to invite you to visit me here at Romney Hall. It is my hope that after a suitable period of time, we might decide that we will suit, and you will consent to be my wife.

Did he think she was mad? Eloise Bridgerton couldn't marry a man she had never met! But before she knew it, she was in a hired carriage in the middle of the night, on her way to meet the man she hoped might be her perfect match.

Except . . . he wasn't. Her perfect husband wouldn't be so moody and ill-mannered, and while Phillip was certainly handsome, he was rough and rugged, and totally unlike the London gentlemen vying for her hand. But when he smiled . . . and when he kissed her . . . the rest of the world simply fell away. Could this imperfect man be perfect for her?

I really loved this book but it still isn’t better than Ben s story (im reading them in order).

  • Just wow

Out of the 5 books I’ve read of the Bridgerton series this was by far my most favourite. I cried for most of the last chapter, just beautiful.

Eloise s story was a lot different from Colin’s and penelope .
  • Frustrating

I wanted to like this book as I’ve enjoyed the others, but Philip is a really unlikeable character. He is grumpy and rude and misogynistic - he ‘tolerates’ her talking a lot and doesn’t connect with her on any mental / emotional level, just wanting to kiss her whenever she tries to talk to him, rather than listening to what she has to say. He uses her as a mother for his kids and a lover in the bedroom but he never gets to a point where he appreciates or respects her as a person - I kept expecting it to happen to make Eloise’s story a romantic story but it doesn’t. She seems to have to smother the chatty, intellectual side of her that wants an equal partnership, in order to love and be loved by him. It all leaves a bit of an uncomfortable taste. I hope the next books are better.
  • Lovely read

I wasn’t a fan of Eloises’ character, but to be honest, that is the book that I enjoyed reading most.
  • Worst book so far

Awful book - worst one of the series. Terrible messaging too - when she’s unhappy but her unhappiness makes him unhappy she just pretends she’s happy... terrible misogynistic writing.
  • Lovely story

  • Brilliant as always

I always feel I am part of the story, the characters I expect to walk in any minute. She has the amazing ability to transport you back in time. Fantastic stuff, this is my 4th book in 2 weeks.
  • Okay

Definitely not as good as the first 3 books, I actually found this one quite boring and skipped a few sections.
  • ok

I was okay but not as good as some of the other books in the series
  • Lovely and true to Eloise

I was worried, with Eloise being so headstrong and independent, that her love story might not do her justice but it really does. Phillip is rugged and his greatest love is gardening. I loved how they were brought together through writing and it was brilliant when they finally realised their love. Seeing Eloise start to lower her guard and allow herself to be in love and happy was so nice. It’s a charming book.
  • couldn't put it down!

    speechless! a page turner... addictive
  • Could've been better

In previous books Eloise is described as strong willed and she sort of represents a modern day women. However in this book she is shut down by Phillip multiple times. I didn't like how everything Eloise had a serious problem Phillip would just kiss her or make love with her to shut her up. Also her first time she was talking and clearly scared and he just made love with her. Additionally, at the start of the book Phillip basically rapes marina as she was unstable and had mental health issues. I mean he only did it once but still she was fragile and he took advantage of her.
